People often arrive at Spiritual Tantra expecting it to be a gentler kind of massage. It is not a massage at all. It is a meditative experience, and the difference matters.
When I describe Spiritual Tantra, I describe an opportunity to reconnect with yourself through meditation, conscious breathing, awareness and life force energy. The room is prepared carefully, with warmth and quietness, so that there is nothing to hurry towards.
We begin by settling in. We talk about your comfort and your boundaries, and we allow time for meditation and conscious breathing. These are not a warm up before the real experience. They are the experience.
Gentle touch may form part of Spiritual Tantra, but only with your consent. This can include awareness of the chakras, understood within certain spiritual traditions as energy centres, and gentle hands on energy work. Someone familiar with Reiki may recognise something of this, although Spiritual Tantra is not simply Reiki under another name.
You may remain in your own comfortable clothing or wear a sarong. There is no requirement to accept touch. Touch, when it is offered, is there to support awareness and meditation, never to provide muscular massage or sexual stimulation.
So what happens? Sometimes a sense of calm. Sometimes an awareness of sensation, or of emotion. Sometimes simply the rare opportunity to sit quietly with yourself and not be asked for anything.
Nothing needs to be forced or interpreted. The intention is to reconnect with yourself through feeling rather than constantly analysing what you should be experiencing.
