Returning to yourself

Tantra for Women

Women can spend so much of their lives meeting expectations.

Expectations about how we should look, how we should behave, what we should give, how much we should carry and who we should become.

Our relationship with our own bodies can become shaped by those expectations.

Tantra offers an opportunity to return to ourselves.

Through meditation, conscious breathing and awareness, we can begin to experience the body beyond constant judgement and the demands of everyday life.

Within Tantric philosophy, Shakti is associated with feminine creative energy.

For me, exploring feminine energy is not about performing a particular version of womanhood.

It is about allowing space for awareness, feeling, intuition and our own experience of being alive.

There is no ideal body, age or life experience required to explore Tantra.

Where womb wisdom is discussed, it can be understood symbolically and spiritually. A woman does not need to have a womb to experience feminine energy or participate in Tantra.

The invitation is not to become someone else.

Tantra does not see sexuality as separate from the whole of who you are. A deeper sexuality is found by working with the whole person, so that connection deepens in every area of life: how you connect with yourself, with others and with everything around you. In this way, Tantra becomes a way of life, of presence, of feeling and of breathing life in.

It is to reconnect with yourself.

The womb and the Divine Feminine

The womb, creative life force and women together

In many Tantric and earth based spiritual traditions, the womb is honoured as a centre of creation. It is the place from which life itself can emerge, and so it has long been used as a symbol of creative power more broadly: the power to begin, to nurture, to feel and to bring something new into being. In Tantric teaching that creative force is Shakti, the living energy of the Divine Feminine.

Within this understanding, the womb is also seen as a place of connection: to the body, to the cycles of life and to the wider web of women who have come before. Many women describe a sense that grief, joy, intuition and desire are felt here, low in the body, long before they are put into words.

These are spiritual teachings and symbols. Ideas such as feminine energy moving between women, or the womb being revitalised, belong to that spiritual understanding. They are not medically proven physical processes, and I do not present them as such.

Nor does a womb define womanhood. Not every woman has a womb, and many women have lived through surgery, loss, infertility, menopause or birth trauma that shape how they feel about this part of themselves. Within Tantra the womb can be understood energetically and symbolically, as the centre of the body and of creative life, and every woman is welcome to relate to it in her own way, or not at all. Feminine energy is not experienced in the same way by every woman.

Some women feel drawn to explore this with another woman. That might be because a woman has carried hurt or wariness around men, because she wants to feel safe enough to soften fully, or simply because there is something deeply familiar in being held in a sacred, embodied space by someone who also knows life in a female body. Sharing breath, meditation and presence woman to woman can feel like coming home to something older than either of us.

In practice this is explored through meditation, conscious breathing and awareness of the belly and pelvis, through sound and stillness, and, only where it is wanted and agreed, through appropriate touch. The intention is to support a felt sense of connection with your body and your own feminine experience, without expectation of what that should be.

Experiences

Where to begin

Women are welcome in every experience I offer. Many begin with Spiritual Tantra, a meditative experience in which you may remain clothed or wear a sarong, or with an online journey from home. Tantra is not a substitute for medical care, and I do not make hormonal or medical promises.
